The Heart of the Matter - from the Vicar, Rev Neill Archer
Do we all remember what Solomon asked for when he was preparing to become King of Israel? He asked for a 'discerning heart' and the LORD gave him such great wisdom and insight that people travelled from other nations to listen.
In all honesty people aren't currently flying into Bristol Airport to hear the discussions of our Church Council and the MARS steering group; but, as we met in early October and read our commissioned Fundraising report, that 'discerning heart' was truly what we were searching for. Together big questions face us such as
- How might we phase the project so work can start immediately on improving our facilities?
- Can we actually raise the required sum of money as a church?
- Is this a community project or simply an Abbey project?
- Who could make up and lead our fund-raising team?
King Solomon had as many opinions as the next man, but he knew he didn't need opinions, he needed wisdom. No walls are being built at the moment, there's no dust and noise, and in the words of the football terraces…'it's all gone quiet over there!' But that quietness as we meet and read and talk and pray is hopefully the sound of discernment.
